The Greatest Mistake of my Life.

The visuals were a representation of the album surrounding love, loss & mourning. This was the band’s transition into colour from B&W aesthetic previously, so we wanted the colours to be quite muted, film-like and have a timeless feel to them. I explored the idea of the isolation that comes with losing someone, the self-isolation and longing of what could have been. The dark colours, props and surroundings represented these feelings. On the album cover I used Marigold’s tying into the band’s previous album but throughout the rest of the imagery used roses linking to their song ‘nomoreroses’ and a nod to the current era they’re going into. Throughout the surrounding imagery I chose to continue to explore this idea of loss - going through mundane parts of your life without that someone who made it all worth it.

Visualisers

Visuals for each song of Holding Absence’s album ‘The Greatest Mistake Of My Life’ were created.

Album visualisers

The visualisers were a set of images for social media and short videos to go alongside each track on the album ‘The Greatest Mistake of my Life.’ Each song had a different theme and style linking directly to the feel of the song and the lyrical content.

It goes from the bright blooming florals for ‘Celebration Song’ signifying a new life and re-birth after a dark period of time taken from the lyric “I’m alive”. To the romantic feeling of ‘Curse Me With Your Kiss’ where there’s this idea of beauty and innocence reflected in the light pink colourings, soft hazy lighting and make-up, linking to the lyric “I dream of you in colours that don’t exist.” Then onto the darker undertone of “Drugs & Love” representing this idea of picking your poison - shown in the yellow colour themes with a sickly feeling to the edit. Finally onto the darker notes of the album with songs like “nomoreroses", “Mourning Song” and “Die Alone (In Your Lovers Arms)” exploring the idea of heartbreak, desperation and the polar opposite of the bright colourful, happy song we started the album with.

The visualisers are a journey through the album, the lyrics and the emotional aspects of each song.
